Similarly to the Notified Body it is accountable to the national competent authority as it assumes responsibilities in the same areas of public interest with a direct impact on safety.

With respect to the Notified Body, the Designated Body performs its assessment activities with exclusive reference to the national standards of the member state for which it has been designated and which have been notified to the European Commission.

Italcertifer is currently recognized as Designated Body for Italy and Greece.
